I know it's hard to compare guitar players and put them in some sort of heirarchy,
and I really don't like to compare because there are so many characteristics
to the craft that beg us to look and rate each artist individually. But never the less
here is a pathetic but heart felt rundown on my favorite three.
Randy Hansen: He gets my vote for number 1, not just because he is my brother,
but he can flat out play. Anyone who can out play him note for note on Hendrix is
welcome to challenge my choice. Never the less you would still come up short
because I love him so much and he's just one of the nicest people I know!
Robin Trower: Fantastic tone, flows through his solos like butter. Bridge of Sighs
is one of my all time favorite LP's of all time. He still sounds great today.
Steve Morse: My first taste of The Dixie Dregs left me permantly weak at the knees in the 70's.
Seven times voted the Best Guitarist in the Guitar Player Magazine readers poll and
subsequently retired from the contest to make room for the rest of us, Steve has blown me a little further away each time he has realeased something new from the Dregs, SteveMorse Band,
or Deep Purple. When I show my brother footage of the Dregs tearin' it up live,
his jaw always drops below his beltline while muttering sensless giberish.
Sick is all I have left to say about him.
I would have mentioned Jimi Hendrix but Randy covers that for me just fine.
Thanks for listening,
Glen
Mine are Randy Hansen, Robin Trower, and Steve Morse. There could be a lot more that fit in the third spot though.
